Fattoria Latte Sano has been serving households in the province of Lazio for more than 70 years. The company produces milk which is collected from selected high-quality farms and sells products under its own brand as well as co-packing dairy products for private labels and other industries. Although the Italian market is still dominated by milk packaged in carton or high-density polyethylene (HPDE), bottling milk in PET is becoming more and more popular in the country, offering a higher perceived value for the consumer. Fattoria Latte Sano needed a brand new packaging line for sustainable business growth, with flexibility for future shelf-stable dairy production.
The acknowledged food safety level of the Aseptic Combi Predis reinforced Fattoria Latte Sano’s confidence when it came to investing in its first aseptic PET solution. The Italian milk producer has also worked closely with Sidel packaging team in designing the new PET bottles and adding an iconic cow outline to the top part of the bottle. The labels are applied with Sidel’s RollQUATTRO Evo labeller, delivering all the flexibility needed to match the dairy player’s requirements in terms of product changeover, accurate label application and light-weighted container handling.
Sidel’s team of engineers worked in close collaboration with the Fattoria Latte Sano team to design the most optimised line layout, which features a relatively small footprint, and to install and validate it. They also provided the right support to the customer team by improving its operational routines and offering guidance on good manufacturing practices. The one-litre bottle weighs only 26g because there are no thermal constraints associated with the traditional bottle-rinsing process, contributing to significant PET savings. It also ensures easy opening and closing options as well as milk quality and integrity due to the perfect tightness between bottle neck and cap with no aluminium foil. With a production capacity of 12,000 bottles per hour, the line is running eight hours per day, five days a week with more than 90% average efficiency for each bottle format. With its significant attributes, it offers Fattoria Latte Sano a huge opportunity to boost production capacity and increase its UHT milk market share.
