Arpanon advances its SENDAI brand with a Sidel developed ultra- lightweight 600 ml bottle, cutting bottle weight by 30% and energy consumption by 50%

Arpanon Beverage Company Limited leveraged Sidel’s packaging expertise to develop one of the lightest PET bottles for its 600ml water portfolio. The new PET bottle weighing just nine grams, was successfully commercialised on Sidel’s 36,000BPH Combi line. Sidel’s solution for Arpanon combined packaging solution for light weighting and a complete water line.

"Our objective was to create a bottle that would reduce material use while maintaining the performance required for efficient production and distribution," said Pavares Kiatsuarpanon, Managing Director at Arpanon. "The final design delivered the combination of lightweighting, strength and operational efficiency we were looking for."

Meeting the needs for lighter bottle packaging

For its 600ml water format, Arpanon was looking to move beyond its previous bottle specification and achieve a lighter package while supporting reliable production performance. The challenge was to reduce bottle weight without compromising the strength required throughout filling, handling and distribution operations.

Sidel addressed this requirement through a complete packaging optimisation approach. The result was a 25/22 neck PET bottle weighing just nine grams, developed without the need for nitrogen while still achieving more than 30kg of top-load performance. The optimisation reduced bottle weight by approximately 30%, from preform design through bottle development and line optimisation, while maintaining the required performance.

High-speed production enabled by Sidel’s Combi technology

Beyond bottle development, Sidel delivered a complete production solution through its 36,000 bph Combi line, integrating blowing, filling and capping into a single compact system. By engineering both the bottle and production process together, Sidel ensured the new lightweight bottle performs consistently throughout the manufacturing cycle.

The integrated Combi solution provides high quality bottle blowing, stable bottle handling, reliable filling performance and high production efficiency while helping reduce energy consumption, production footprint and operational complexity. As a result, Arpanon doubled production output while using only 25% of its previous labour requirement. Blowing pressure was also reduced by approximately one-third, while electricity consumption per unit was cut by 50%. Production time was reduced by approximately 70%, enabling faster and more efficient operations.

"Achieving a nine-gram bottle with the required top-load performance demanded careful optimisation at every stage of development," continued Mr. Kiatsuarpanon. "By combining packaging expertise with line engineering, Sidel were able to support Arpanon in developing a solution that met Arpanon's lightweighting objectives while supporting efficient full-scale production."

Delivering efficient, effective results for beverage producers

The end result of a lightweight bottle design supported a reduced material usage, while also boosting line performance which was both efficient and sustainable in its course. The combination of lightweighting and process optimisation also delivered a five-fold reduction in waste, improving material utilisation and overall resource efficiency. This lower bottle weight contributed significantly to improved cost effectiveness, helping the customer achieve its packaging objectives, while maintaining operational requirements.

Through the combination of extensive packaging expertise, and a system-wide, complete line enhancement approach, Sidel was able to deliver a tailored solution to add to Arpanon's 600ml water portfolio, showcasing its lightweight design, bottle performance and production efficiency.
