Advancing sustainability with Sibeg’s first aseptic PET packaging line

The challenge

Sibeg’s sustainability strategy is focused on reducing its environmental footprint across operations from cutting pollution linked to truck transport to minimising waste and resource consumption. To support this, the company sought a solution that would not only improve efficiency and safety but also enable diversification into new beverage categories such as energy drinks and teas.

Through its partnership with Sidel, Sibeg has implemented technologies that reduce water, energy, chemicals, and plastic usage, while allowing production with 100% recycled PET (rPET) and expanding product flexibility. These efforts align with Sibeg’s long-term environmental goals, including zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2032.

The solution

Sidel has implemented a complete aseptic PET line for Sibeg that integrates preform sterilisation, blow moulding, filling, and capping in one streamlined process. This advanced system ensures product integrity and extended shelf life for sensitive beverages while meeting stringent Coca-Cola standards. Its dry preform decontamination technology significantly reduces water and chemical use, supporting sustainability goals and eliminating the need for preservatives.

The Aseptic Combi Predis is designed for operational efficiency, enabling easy management of sterilisation, minimising downtime, and reducing training requirements. Its flexibility allows quick format changes across ten different beverage types, from energy drinks to teas, while maintaining high food safety and productivity standards.

Complementing this, Sidel introduced EvoFilm Stretch, a breakthrough in stretch wrapping that operates at ambient temperature, cutting plastic use by up to 60% and energy consumption by 90%. Combined with the Evo-ON Flex software for guided changeovers and real-time scheduling, these innovations deliver cost savings, sustainability benefits, and improved line efficiency for Sibeg.

The outcome

The new line has enabled significant reductions in water, energy, and chemical usage, while supporting the use of 100% recycled PET (rPET), thereby advancing Sibeg’s commitment to a circular economy.

Operational flexibility has been enhanced, allowing for greater product diversification and responsiveness to market demands. Additionally, the initiative has helped to reduce pollution associated with transport, and the system achieved successful aseptic validation on its first attempt, meeting stringent safety standards.

Sidel and Sibeg share a long-standing partnership, with a complete line previously supplied for CSD packaging. Once again, Sibeg places its trust in Sidel, this time for aseptic production, relying on its well-known expertise to ensure the highest levels of product safety. The complete aseptic PET line will enable us to diversify into energy drinks and tea production.
