Global PET liquid packaging specialist Sidel hasannounced the divestment of Hema, an independent subsidiary, toBarry-Wehmiller, a diversified engineering and manufacturingtechnology company for the packaging, corrugating, sheeting andpaper converting industries. The transaction was completed onMarch 31, 2015.
Hema, headquartered in Quimper, France, manufactures and sellsfilling systems for complex liquid foods like meats, edible oils,sauces, dressings, dairy products and liquid pate, and also forother areas such as cosmetics. The move is part of Sidel'sstrategy to focus on the core business of PET liquid packagingsolutions to the beverage industry. As a global capitalequipment and engineering technology firm with packagingactivities, Barry-Wehmiller offers Hema and its associates theopportunity to thrive in a more suitable environment. Barry-Wehmiller has ten interactive divisions: Accraply, BWContainer Systems, Barry-Wehmiller International (B-WI), BWPapersystems, Design Group, Hayssen Flexible Systems, PaperConverting Machine Company (PCMC), PneumaticScaleAngelus, Synerlinkand Thiele Technologies.
The divestment of Hema to Barry-Wehmiller creates access to newmarkets and opportunities for Hema, and provides a stable basis tosecure the long-term future of the company. Under the termsof the purchase agreement, Barry-Wehmiller will honour bothexisting supplier and customer agreements. Sidel will retaina supplier relationship with Hema ensuring customers continue toreceive the same high level of service already delivered.
