Sidel awarded accreditation from SAFE contractor for health & safety excellence

The award comes from SAFEcontractor, the leadingthird-party accreditation scheme that recognises high standards inhealth & safety management. The accreditation mainlyfocuses on the activities and practices of Sidel's employees asthey carry out their duties in line with the company's health,safety and environment group procedures on customers'sites.

 

Health and safety is a fundamental part of Sidel's operationsand its ongoing commitment to sustainable practices.  "Ourintention is to pursue the highest standards and the safest workingpractices in everything that we do as an organisation," commentsStéphane Aymonier, Corporate HS&E Director at Sidel. "Tosuccessfully achieve accreditation for yet another year is verysatisfying.  With a large number of highly experiencedengineers working at sites other than our own, this shows that ourefforts to minimise the risks to our staff, to our customers and tothe public are proving very effective."

 

Minimising risk of accidents

The SAFEcontractor scheme is used by many large organisations asa means of sourcing a competent contractor and Sidel has once againproved its commitment to maintaining an excellent record in healthand safety.  Under the scheme, organisations undergo ascreening process to examine the health & safety procedures putin place and effectively carried out - as well as their trackrecord for safe working.  The aim is to determine whether goodstandards of safety are followed in performing all aspects of thework undertaken and, in doing so, minimising the risk ofaccidents.  Safety audits and other relevant procedures areundertaken on all sites and those people designated to carry outwork on the company's behalf require good knowledge andunderstanding of health & safety practices. 

 

Health and safety throughout globaloperations

Sidel has nearly three and a half thousand employeesworldwide.  At its own sites around the globe, Sidel employshealth & safety professionals who provide daily competenceadvice to staff and the company also uses the support of provenspecialists from external organisations.  Employees undergo atraining programme giving them a good working knowledge of healthand safety at a workstation.  Field service engineers receivea training focus on all risks that they could face on customersites.  Guidelines give instruction regarding manual handlingrisk, working at height and other risks, along with PPE (personalprotective equipment) and other safety equipment.  In additionto providing health & safety training for its own employees,helping to ensure on-site safety for all, Sidel will also carry outtraining of customers' staff at their own facilities ifrequired.
