Carlsberg Italia is one of Italy’s biggest brewers, making and selling one million six hundred thousand hectoliters of beer every year. In addition to the popular Carlsberg and Tuborg brands, the brewery produces other well-known Italian brands such as Splugen, Bock 1877 and the historic Poretti – the brewery’s original brand, dating back to the late 19th century.
“The historical production plant is now being expanded,” says Chief Engineer Sergio Bosetti. And Carlsberg Italia has chosen Sidel to help with the project. Sidel will supply two combined glass beer bottle lines. Production can be split between two lines working in parallel with different formats. Or it can be combined to produce a total output of 72,000 bph in the 66 cl format. In addition to conveyors, Carlsberg Italia has purchased all late model machines, including two Eurotronica LP electronic fillers and a double-decker Pama pasteurizer. In this unique system, each filler feeds one level of the machine, so that production can be managed on two separate levels if necessary. The pasteurizer’s two levels and their Prince control systems can pasteurize two different products and bottle them in different containers.
Ties between Carlsberg and Sidel are very strong. Over time the two companies have built a relationship of trust. Carlsberg’s head office in Copenhagen has called on Sidel to supply equipment to major production plants all over the world in Denmark, England, Sweden, Serbia, Malawi and now Italy. Bosetti reports, “We were impressed by the plant in Leeds, England, ”where two top-of-the-range Sidel lines were installed (one for glass bottles in 2005 and one for cans, which started operation in 2006). “What makes Sidel different from the competition is its ability to come up with a layout guaranteeing maximum accessibility and room for maneuvering, great flexibility, strong local support and, last but not least, a competitive price.”
The lines were assembled and tested over the summer and are now on their way to Induno Olona. Sergio Bosetti concludes, “We were very pleased with the service received during the first project management phase. We expected a lot from Sidel in terms of efficiency, quality and technology. And we want to make these two lines the group's best bottling lines!”
