From refining to bottling
The history of Prikolotnyanskiy OEF started a hundred years ago. In Prikolotnoye, some one hundred kilometers from Kharkov in Northwestern Ukraine, it started extracting oil in 1907. A century or so later, in 2003, new facilities that paved the way for one of the best refining complex in Europe and CIS for the new line for sunflower oil PET bottling were built on the site.
Alexander Yunakov, General Manager of CJSC (Closed Joint Stock Company) Prikolotnyanskiy OEF: «When we decided to select a supplier of equipment for packaging oils we had definite criteria in mind. We liked Sidel technology best for several reasons: first, we took into account Sidel’s leading position on the international market of technologies and equipment; secondly, we thought that the gravimetric weighting principle guaranteed perfect dosing of the product as well as top quality packing. During the period when we held the tender for a supplier, Sidel had just started to produce its first GW (gravimetrical weighting) fillers, in which tested mechanical achievements and new pneumatic technologies were combined. Such technology for filling sauces and oils allows weighting net of the product during filling and DPH (dozing palm for homogeneous liquids) closes when the proper weight is reached. Basically, this is why we chose Sidel.”
Modern technologies
400 people work at the Prikolotnyanskiy OEF plant and the processing sunflower seeds capacity is up to 495 tons per day. All production processes starting from seed infeed to the final product are regularly inspected. In the production lab the quality of the oil is also checked on a regular basis. That implies such parameters as taste, body, humidity, smell, phosphor, free fatty acids to name just a few… Their management system has been audited and is now certified to be in accordance with international standard ISO 9001.
Prikolotnyanskiy OEF has produced bottled Stozhar™ sunflower oil with new capacities since 2004. Stozhar oil’s soft refining preserves unique vitamins and fatty acids, which are essential components of a healthy diet. Stozhar™ is adopted for child food and for preparing food at high temperature.
«Stozhar» differs from other oils by its original design. Sidel developed the shape imagined by the designers and perfected the bottle’s mechanical properties, its ribs, the shoulders, and bottle waist for better grasping. The customer’s decision to have a three-section label on the bottle’s body and neck meant that Sidel would have to make the required modifications to the labeling machine on the line*.
Alexander Yunakov: «As a result of Stozhar recognition - 9% of Ukrainian market share of bottled sunflower oil in 2006-, we feel we can move ahead. The Kernel Group plans to increase our market share of Stozhar in Ukraine but also to tackle foreign markets.” Today Kernel exports its products to Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Israel and Baltic countries. “Besides, Kernel Group is planning to further develop Prikolotnyanskiy OEF, enlarging the products range and the list of the countries in which one can buy our products.”
