In late 2007, Sidel sells a used SBO 10/14 HR to the Doosan Corporation located in Eumsung. The challenge is to overhaul and install the machine on-site by spring 2008.

The Korean firm’s needs are identified. It produces HR PET bottles for hot filling (92°C) for tea and wants to quickly invest in a new machine to meet the needs of one of its customers. It is looking for a low-cost solution with production starting in mid-April 2008.

Considering the customer’s required 7,000 bottle/hour output and its budget, the best solution is a used Series1 machine. Sidel’s intimate knowledge of its entire installed base of equipment enables it to quickly identify an SBO 10/14 HR available in Scandinavia that would meet Doosan’s technical requirements. A diagnostic visit is organized in order to perform a detailed assessment of its current condition. After acquiring the machine, Sidel sells it to Doosan in December 2007 along with an overhaul prior to installation.
Then a race against the clock begins. First the blow molding machine is dismantled, shipped and received at Sidel’s overhaul center in Le Havre. The machine’s condition is again inspected quickly followed by an order for spare parts supply, the overhaul itself, and the connection of the machine to water, air and electrical supply. A team of four (two mechanics, one electrician, and a cleaner/painter) works on the project. After a series of conclusive operational tests, the machine is again disassembled and packaged on its side for secure air shipment to South Korea.

The on-site installation begins a few weeks later. The technical acknowledgement of receipt is signed on April 17. Mission accomplished. A low-cost machine that fits Doosan’s needs and is fully functional within the required deadline.
