After graduating from business school, Chi Jiuan Tee experienced several different HR approaches in various corporations before joining Sidel in 2001 on completion of a three-month assignment.
Q. Why did you choose to join Sidel?
R. There were several reasons for my decision. One was the fact that innovation is important for Sidel. I remember my first meeting with the head of Sidel Malaysia, he took me to see a machine that was being tested and explained to me how it worked. I was amazed with the technology deployed! Also, the challenge of working in the manufacturing industry is interesting for me to develop further in HR management.
Q. What do you think of the training programs offered by Sidel?
R. I have attended a few programs on management and leadership, finance for non-financial staff and process improvement. The programs have been beneficial in my personal development and have enabled me to see things in bigger perspective in understanding the work better and more effectively.
Q. What is your current post?
R. I am the senior human resources manager for Sidel Malaysia. I oversee the whole spectrum of HR functions: recruitment, performance management, training, compensation, counseling, industrial relation and so on. Moving forward, we will be working toward competencies development and succession planning.
Q. For you, what is the key interest in this job?
R. I particularly like working on projects such as the recent acquisition of Simonazzi in which the HR, finance and IT teams at Sidel Malaysia coordinated the activities in Asia. That was a highly motivating and exciting challenge with impending deadlines to be met and the chance to interact with some great people to meet targets. This assignment has helps me to sharpen my existing skills and knowledge, as well as enabling me to add on to them. I must confess, Team building and working together is also a major motivation. Finally, I like to share the quote from Henry Ford on “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress and working together is success.”
