Sustainability > ECO CONCEPTION

A new bottle concept called NoBottle

In addition to its captivating design which proves that “green” can be beautiful as well as functional, NoBottle™ became the first plastic bottle weighing a mere 9.9 grams. That is almost 40% lighter than the typical plastic bottle on the market today. The reduction means a potential savings of 160,000 tons of plastic per year worldwide!

What is more, this 40% savings translates into energy reduction for the machines that handle several tons of bottles per day, not to mention the distribution networks that ship the packages to their points of sale.

CHANGING THE RULES WITH ECO DESIGN

Why is eco-design so important?
Eco-design considers the entire manufacturing process, from conception to recycling, with an aim towards sustainable development. It involves asking a lot of important questions. How can we reduce raw materials? What are the best materials to use? Can we optimize the shape and size of our package? Is there a better sterilization process? Is there a smarter way to do labels? Sidel brings you answers.

Could bio-plastic be in your future?
Bio-plastics are made from plant materials, such as cereal, soy and starch. Unlike petroleum-based products, they are renewable. To make this innovation more affordable within the manufacturing process, Sidel has been actively involved in its research and testing, which includes forming solid partnerships with key industry players and backing the creation of new bio-refineries.

Making big progress in recycling
Our research in this field is paying off! Sidel’s plastic-bottle production lines are now fully compatible with recycled PET. We are currently working with the recycling industry to raise the bar further. Today’s collection rates are not high enough to ensure optimum production of bottles made from recycled PET. Our rallying cry: let’s recycle more!
