Answering the market demands of sensitive products

The market for sensitive products is growing fast as consumers embrace healthier beverages. Sidel continues to help producers stay at the forefront of this market by aligning its innovative dry preform decontamination technology with the latest generation of modular Sidel MatrixTM blowing equipment.

Sensitive beverages sometimes contain larger particles, such as fruit pulp, fruit pieces, or cereals. This means manufacturers need to protect the integrity of the particles to maintain the beverage's natural properties without compromising food safety or production quality. 


Predis - the industry standard now available on Sidel Matrix equipment

Since it was first launched over 15 years ago, Sidel dry preform decontamination technology - PredisTM - has become the beverage industry standard for aseptic production.

Sidel was the first company to recognise that it was simpler and safer to decontaminate the preform, which is smaller and has a single straight surface, than the actual bottle. Around the world, more than 90 production lines have been equipped with the Predis system.

With the launch of the new Sidel Matrix Predis available in the Combi Predis FMa configuration, the popularity of Predis now looks set to increase further. Manufacturers can aseptically produce many different bottle shapes in sizes ranging from 0.2 to 2 litres at high running outputs of up to 2,300 bottles per mould per hour. 

A new record in continuous aseptic production

The Combi Predis FMa is designed to offer a continuous production run of 165 hours between two cleaning and sterilising cycles - the longest continuous production time of any aseptic equipment. This new record of extended production run gives manufacturers the highest aseptic bottling uptime available on the beverage market today. By requiring fewer cleaning and sterilisation cycles, the components are also subjected to less stress thereby giving them a longer lifespan with less maintenance.

The modular design of the Sidel Matrix Predis offers a number of additional benefits including:

  • Simplified design, with fewer transfer wheels
  • More compact and more accessible for facilitating production and maintenance operations
  • More automatic functionality, such as the outfeed bottle starwheels

How does dry preform decontamination work?

While traditional aseptic production with wet bottle sterilising and rinsing can consume up to 180 cubic metres of water and 220 litres of chemicals per day, the Predis dry preform decontamination technology provides complete sterilisation of bottles using condensation of hydrogen peroxide. This ensures full sterilisation with no water and using just a minimal amount of chemicals. Furthermore, in addition to saving resources, Predis technology completely removes the production of any harmful chemical effluent.

PredisTM dry preform decontamination is carried out by condensation of the hydrogen peroxide mist on the inner walls of the preforms. Its passage through an oven ensures the activation of the sterilising effects of the mist and effectively heat-conditions the preforms prior to the blow moulding process. The filled contents of the finished bottle are therefore protected from microorganisms and beverage safety and quality are maintained.
