Otsuka implements programmes for its healthy beverages

OPC meeting with Sidel
The beverage market had long been the focus of the Japanese giant's development programmes. After trying various local suppliers, the group was searching for partnerships with international groups able to supply blowers and fillers and to supply complete turnkey lines. To this end, Otsuka Senior Operating Officer, Hiroshi Inaka invited Sidel CEO Mart Tiismann to a meeting in Otsuka's Tokushima headquarters.

Creating innovative products
The company conducts scientific research into the nutritional needs of different ages and health conditions. It has even created new markets by applying the expertise acquired in its pharmaceutical research into the creation of innovative products. One example is Pocari Sweat™, an electrolytes supply drink prompted by the idea of intravenous hydration. Although the two groups had already worked together following the acquisition of two Simonazzi fillers a year earlier, this particular top-level meeting was aimed at mapping out a shared vision from the point of view of committing to ethical and social responsibilities. Otsuka's projects at the time included building on the worldwide success of its highly innovative Pocari Sweat.
Leader on the world heath business scene
The notion that Japanese group Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company Limited is aleading player on the world health business scene is confirmed by the group's facts and figures: 33,000 employees and 106 companies in 18 countries worldwide. It hasannual sales figures of approximately 6 billion euros. At the meeting between Messrs Inaka and Tiismann, it was agreed that Pocari Sweat production would benefit from two new concept lines featuring SBO20 blowers with Predis - one each in Japan and Indonesia - whilst a third Sidel SBO20 blower, again with Predis, would also be installed in Indonesia.
